I haven’t written too much about the way I set up or designed my website. I’m thinking I’ll just give you some pieces as I go. As I come across things that can be useful to other bloggers and my readers, I’ll share them with you.
I’m trying something new.
I was reading DoFollow, Keyword Luv & CommentLuv from @mmangen.
I’m intrigued by the dofollow concept but I’m not sure the true benefits of nofollow. To me dofollow seems to promote more interaction. The main purpose of this blog is to create interaction with people so dofollow seems like the way to go. As I looked around the internet, the biggest complaint of dofollow is spam. It seems that dofollow seems to attract a lot of spammers.
Lucia’s Linky Love
As I looked into dofollow plugins I came across Lucia’s Linky Love. Make sure to check out the website as it provides a lot more information on the plugin in. I have since installed this plugin which makes my blog dofollow to certain people only. It becomes dofollow after a person leaves 3 comments. I love the concept behind this as it doesn’t help spammers or random people looking for link juice but instead rewards the true readers of the blog.
More nofollow links
The only reason I could find as to why nofollow might be better than dofollow is from an SEO standpoint it seems to help. To counteract my new dofollow plugin, I have decided to make links to websites that don’t need them (i.e. Twitter, Facebook, ete.) nofollow links. I like to link to people’s twitter accounts such as I did above and those will now be nofollow links on my blog as a way to try to have the best of both worlds. What do you think?
I don’t claim to be an expert at this thing so any advice or corrections of my thinking is greatly appreciated. Am I on the right track?

Interesting debate, and thanks for finding the plug-in! I was looking for something good like that.
The more you look into SEO stuff, the more you will not be able to “selflessly promote others” as written in the Yakezie Alexa Challenge. I think you’re a participant right?
If I were you, I’d probably just announce to everybody you are dofollowing your community loud and clear, which may be what you are doing right now.
Best

Congratulations Financial Samurai! You are the first person on this blog with 3 comments. Sure enough, using the firebug add-on, I see that you have a dofollow link. I’m sending you some well deserved link juice.
I did jump in on the Yakezie Alexa Challenge, which I recommend everyone check out http://www.financialsamurai.com/2010/01/20/creating-powerful-friends-the-alexa-ranking-challenge/
Sounds good man! We going to rock the PF community to oblivion! Just imagine if all of us dominate the top 100 on WB. We’ll have great money making offers, we’ll refer each other, we’ll promote each other, it’ll all be good.

BTW CJ, I tried to tweet, but it says “link points to wrong post” or something of that sort. try it out yourself.

@Financial Samurai
Thanks for the heads up. That’s weird because the button seems to work fine for me. Anyone else having problems with it? Which browser are you using?
I was looking for a plugin like this, glad you posted.
haha, love Samurai’s intensity on the comments… Maybe we’ll just have to start our own version of Wisebread ey?

I thought it was such a great plugin that I had to share it. Enjoy. I’ve had trouble getting listed on Wisebread, though I only tried once. If another one is started, add me to the list I’m definitely interested.
CJ- Did you ever get listed on Wisebread? I just submitted my 2nd try yesterday. Maybe it just takes awhile?

SAHMCFO, it just takes a while. I think it took me like a month to get on. If after 3 or so weeks and you don’t see yourself, try again.
Gluck!

I think I submitted to it once a while ago and don’t think I’ve gotten listed yet. Honestly, I’ve been spending my time online with the Yakezie blogs. They’ve been keeping me busy and it’s a much better group.
Great to know Samurai. Patience is not my strong suit:)

I guess I am going to have to come back and make a 3rd comment CJ! The big debate on this is definitely increasing the likely hood of spam. The other consideration although I really don’t know how much of a difference it makes, is the fact that having do follow links “leaks your page rank” out to other sites. Of course that is why you will get more traffic generally speaking on a “do follow” blog. People are always looking for the link juice.

Maybe I’m not as worried about leaking the page rank as I am about helping other people with there own sites. This isn’t just about me it’s about anyone and everyone that wants to participate and join in. When you participate like you have then I try to give a little back and for you, you get a link. That’s the best I can do from here and then I’ll come visit your site and try to return the favor. Sounds fair to me, what do you think?
