Snappy Dogs – Gourmet Hot Dogs

by CJ Bowker on June 25, 2010

I have a new tradition on Fridays.  There’s a local hot dog stand in Hopkinton, Massachusetts that has become my regular lunch spot on Fridays.  It’s so good I have to share.  Truth be told, I’m not the first one to talk about how great a hot dog stand can be, especially one named Snappy Dogs.  You can read a great review of Snappy Dogs that breaks down the taste of all their gourmet and unique condiments.  Or you can rely on the local newspaper write up, except that they did make one mistake I must point out.  The specially prepared hot dogs are on Friday not Saturday.  You’ll regret making that mistake, trust me.

The next Friday (any day for that matter but especially Friday), you’re driving on 495, looking for lunch in the MetroWest area or near Hopkinton, there’s a place you need to stop at.  Snappy Dogs is located right next to Colella’s Supermarket on Rt 85 in downtown Hopkinton, Massachusetts.

Why Friday at Snappy Dogs, you ask?

Every Friday the fine woman of Snappy Dogs, Teresa Boyce and Lisa Volpe Hachey come up with a mouthwatering concoction like you’ve never seen or tasted before.  They will marinate the hot dog in alcohol and add some exquisite toppings.  It all started on Cinqo De Mayo when they served a hot dog marinated in Jose Cuervo, grilled, and topped with guacamole, pepper Jack cheese, and a squirt of lime, wrapped in a warmed flour tortilla.  It was even better than it sounds.  A tradition was born…

5 Reasons to Go to Snappy Dogs on Fridays

Snappy Reuben Dog1. Snappy Reuben

Freshly carved corned beef simmered in beer, laying it along side a grilled hot dog, and topping all with sauerkraut and Swiss cheese.  Finished off with a squirt of Russian dressing.

Snappy Garden Dog2. A Walk Through The Garden

An assortment of grilled vegetables – peppers, portobellos, eggplant, summer squash, and Vidalia onions – simmered in Pinot Grigio, piled high on top of a grilled hot dog and sprinkled with bits of feta cheese on top.

Snappy Junkyard Dog3. The Junkyard Dog

A hot dog simmered in beer, grilled and piled with grilled kielbasa, onions and peppers.

Snappy Red, White & Blue Dog4. Red, White and Blue Dog

A grilled hot dog simmered in Wachusett Mountain Blueberry Ale and topped with marinated grilled red peppers, mozzarella cheese, and blue corn chips.

Snappy Ploughman Dog5. The Ploughman Dog

Snappy dog simmered in hard cider then grilled, and topped with apple cider slaw, sharp cheddar, grilled onions, and Coleman’s English mustard.

If those 5 reasons aren’t reason enough I’ll be heading over today for:

The Lady is a Tramp is Friday’s Happy dog special, and she promises to be spicy! All the flavors that make puttanesca sauce burn your mouth and make you smile at the same time will be found in this dog: hot peppers, garilc, onions, black and green olives, garlic, capers, garlic, mashed anchovies, garlic…you get the…

For those of you wishing to be more healthy (not I), they do offer veggie dogs as well as a 3 pt turkey dog for you weight watcher fans.

One of the more understated features of this gourmet hot dogs stand is their deserts.  Homemade cookies and whoopie dogs abound.  Then if you are lucky they will also have homemade carrot cake cupcakes.  Those with a sweet tooth could call it heaven in a hot dog stand.

Next time you are in the Hopkinton area of Massachusetts, stop by Snappy Dogs and tell them CJ sent you, unless you order a healthy dog then I’m okay without the credit.  Make sure you follow them on Facebook so that you can find out about the up-and-coming Friday specials.

Those sound really interesting, but not sure I would try one, haha. (But that’s what most people say about our fish tacos in Southern Cal.)

Hello!

I just did an article on the huge mark-up on hot dogs…and had to eat a LOT of hot dogs in order to write the article (okay…I didn’t really HAVE to, but how could I let them go to waste after I paid for them:)). Anyway, I enjoyed your article and I hope you had a chance to see mine!

mmMMmmm I love a good hotdog. I hear Chicago does em up real nice, though I’ve never been. It’s too bad there isn’t much more than Weinerschnitzel out here in Utah as far as gourmet hotdog stands go.
