What do you think is worse?
Too many things go on in our lives. You can’t know everything. Can you accept that? Can you admit that you are uneducated in regards to a certain area of your life? Because you are. The worst part might be that you don’t know you are.
Who do you turn to? Unfortunately, many of us turn to people we know and trust regardless of whether they have any expertise in a particular area. We tend to ask older people just because they have more experience. Does experience alone make some qualified to give advice on a particular topic?
The financial world might be the best example of this. You probably ask your parents for advice. Times have changed. You are in a completely different situation. So you turn to a financial professional. What if I told you all they did was study a book and take a written test. The guy could get a C on the test and still be allowed to pass the exam. Would you be happy with a C?
Truth be told many managers, tell people getting into the financial business that they don’t want to get a high grade. Managers have a different incentive. They only make money when the people they high make money so they need the person to pass the test and get out making money as quickly as possible. They tell there highers to study just enough to pass. I’ve seen it.
Let me ask you…
Is it better to be uneducated and do-it-yourself? Figure out your own way to put the time in and weed through the ton of crappy financial information that is out there…
Or
Is it better to work with someone that is miseducated and thinks that he/she knows what they’re done and what’s best for you?

Uneducated in all ways. B/c you can educate a blank slate. But to RE-educate a miseducated person or self is a two step process and hard to fix.

I definitely agree with you. Is a blank slate really possible in this day and age? I just wonder, with so much information and opinions floating around everywhere if it’s even possible to have a blank slate anymore. Life insurance might be the best example of this. There’s so much information out there regarding life insurance who’s to say or even figure out where the misinformation begins?
Experience works sometimes but not always. In the Real Estate field I have seen plenty of newer agents that could run circles around some of the older folks. There is nothing better than a good track record. So many people fail to look at that one aspect that should tell them everything they need to know!

What do you think of the training in the real estate world? The funny thing with the financial world is that the training itself can be one-sided (so to say). What this leads to is a lot of miseducated people who believe what they are trained. Unfortunately, they are trained to sell a product which isn’t always the best product. Does this arise with houses?
